I haven't been here for a while, as I'm sure most of you are use to my disappearing act by now. But I'm glad to see that challenges, pimps, and fan-fic writing is still going strong. Big shouts to sweet_lemmon, inell, bingblot, anathem, aniwde, cinnamon_kisses, dreambastion, hpffthequibbler, isinuyasha, juwel_fic, lillywmw, mundane, petalsofts4um, rickey_a, shadowfiction, and sparkysparky for still going strong and keeping us lowly readers entertained. I'm sure I'm missing over half the people that I've friended, watched, and become a flagrant fan of so shouts out to all of you too! Currently, I'm working on a trilogy novel. It is fantasy-fiction and the main character is a WOMAN!! Woo-Hoo!! I'm going to (at some point) post an excerpt from the story. Please tell me HONESTLY what you think. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a talented, sexy, provocative man... Heath Ledger (4 April 1979 - 22 January 2008)  Mystery surrounded the death today in New York of the Australian-born actor Heath Ledger, best known for his Oscar-nominated role as one of two cowboys in the 2005 film, Brokeback Mountain. Friends and fans alike were shocked to hear of the 28-year-old's death at a downtown Manhattan apartment. "He was found unconscious at the apartment and pronounced dead," said a spokesman for New York Police Department, where it is understood detectives are investigating the possibility that he died of a drug overdose. Early television reports said his body had been found surrounded by pills and police said they did not suspect foul play. Police said he had been due to have a massage at the apartment on Broome Street in SoHo. The housekeeper went to tell him the masseuse had arrived and found him dead. The Perth-born actor was reported to have split up in September with his actress girlfriend Michelle Williams, whom he met in 2004 while filming Brokeback Mountain. She played the woman Ledger's character Ennis eventually married. "I remember being in rehearsal, and the two of them had googly eyes with each other," Jake Gyllenhaal, who played the other cowboy, Jack, once said of the couple. "There were sparks immediately," added co-star Anne Hathaway. "It was adorable." Ledger and Williams were together for three years and had a daughter, Matilda, before they broke up. Ledger had only recently left London where he was filming the new Terry Gilliam film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. He also plays the Joker in the next Batman film, The Dark Night. He recently appeared as one of the six 'Bob Dylans' in the film I'm Not There, for which his co-star and fellow Aussie Cate Blanchett was today nominated for the best supporting actress Oscar. But it will be for his ground-breaking role in Ang Lee's brilliant Brokeback Mountain, based on the story by E Annie Proulx about a forbidden and secretive relationship between two Wyoming ranch hands, that he will be best remembered. Like Gyllenhaal, he took a huge risk to play a role which there was never any guarantee cinema audiences would accept. But Lee's direction, and the lead actors' sensitive performances, ensured its success. Rolling Stone magazine said on the film's release: "Ledger's magnificent performance is an acting miracle. He seems to tear it from his insides. Ledger doesn't just know how Ennis moves, speaks and listens; he knows how he breathes. So, I'm writing again. It's flowing freely and I feel very confident that I might actually finish this book by the end of the school year. It's a story about a young woman, with various powers that tries to avenge her mothers disappearance/death by the hands of the United States government. The government is doing some really shady things since they've lost their standing as a world power, and it's costing its citizens severely. That's a VERY quick summary (which, I admit, I'm not too good at). Oh, this story has magic, dragons, anarchy, coups, militias, and of course, romance all rolled into one book. Once I get a bit further along, I'll try to post an excerpt here. I'll try to keep you guys posted instead of doing my little 'once a year' posting that I've grown so fond of. Toodles! Amendment to prohibit gay marriage fails in House July 19, 2006 BY JIM ABRAMS WASHINGTON -- The House rejected a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage on Tuesday, a setback that conservatives hope to turn to their advantage in the fall elections. ''Be assured that this issue is not over,'' said House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert of Illinois. The vote was 236-187 with one member voting ''present,'' a slight improvement over the last House vote just before the 2004 election but still 46 short of the two-thirds majority needed to advance a constitutional amendment. Senate rejected it last month Supporters argued Congress must trump the actions of judges who have ruled in favor of gay marriages. ''We must not allow an institution of such great importance to be arbitrarily redefined for the entire nation by a small number of unelected judges,'' said Rep. Joe Pitts (R-Pa.). Opponents, including 27 Republicans, argued that the measure was meaningless -- the Senate rejected the amendment last month, effectively killing it for this session -- as well as unneeded and mean-spirited. ''This is a partisan effort by Republicans to divide the American people rather than forge consensus to solve our urgent problems,'' said Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California. 'Batting practice with my life' Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), an openly gay member of Congress, said he took the proposal personally. ''I think this is motivated, frankly, by a dislike of those of us who are gay and lesbian,'' he said, and he objected to ''people taking batting practice with my life.'' Forty-five states either have constitutional amendments or statutes outlawing same-sex marriage. In Massachusetts, the only state that allows gay marriage, the high court has ruled a proposed state constitutional amendment banning future gay marriages can be on the ballot. Bush has advocated, and the GOP conservative base has demanded, a federal amendment. Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, a leading amendment supporter, said it "will be a very prominent issue" on his group's voter scorecard, which will go out to millions of Americans. Blood spills for no reason until the vibe gets murky. Under the depths I wept for their souls. They’re taught to control the whole and you’ll score. Relations make complications with no consideration of negative situations. I’m everyday contemplating the snap. Not to bust caps and act rude just tryin’ to feed you a little bit of soul food. Food – for – the - soul. They, climb out their holes and then use the control mechanisms to feed off of ‘Ghetto Ism Skisms’ because they know there ain’t too many in search of blessings and wisdom. I just ain’t feelin dem so called goody seven shoes. For the sake of reality let’s say that we’re livin’ the blues, dude tried to block the light and then Jah sends a message to thine ears. Loyalty, trust, and divinity burst through the walls of obstruction. I feel the Creator created my Saviour from pure dee “Creator Bullion Flavor”. Savor, the heavenly blend of truth and spices, it’s twice as nice as me giving birth thrice to a trinity of lives. Now my eyes are wide. Two Wives and a Man-child. For a while I, couldn’t comprehend, but maaaan when I did. I could no longer live in a situation where there was no love for me, cause now I see. No love for me, means no love for WE… and that just can’t be! Now I strive for higher goals and zero financial woes and hair that grows like a tree… Forever shall my spirit be… FREE! I think that it is best stated in Matthew chapter seven how we should look at others sin. I am an out and proud mother of 6 children (3 of which I birthed) and when I tell most self proclaimed Christians this, they tend to (tsk, tsk) and comment, “Oh my, those poor babies”. I feel that this preconceived perception and labeling constricts people in a way that is perpetuating the downfall of humanity. Let me start by saying that I lived the better part of my life trying to conform to the ideology that society has placed upon us as humans and in the process, I managed to give my children low self esteem by example. They saw me with their father truly unhappy, feeling like a failure and not loving myself at all. They picked up on that and adopted my way of thinking regardless to my constant uplifting of them. Once I left their dad, I struggled alone to take care of them (which really wasn't new; I'd done this our whole relationship). They watched me day and night working and sometimes crying because of how my life turned out. I knew deep down that I couldn't suppress my true feelings any longer. Not being true to myself was eating me alive. So I 'came out' to my children first and then my family and friends. After about two years of learning myself and asking God to take this sinful nature away from me and send me what I needed, I accidentally met the woman of my dreams. She was just as spiritual as me. Having a hard time accepting this aspect of her life, just like me. And she had 3 children just like me. We connected on a level that I had never connected with anyone on all my life. That was in 2000, and we have been together ever since. I said all of that to say, NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO JUDGE OUR FAMILY OR LIFESTYLE BASED ON OTHER PEOPLES MISTAKES! I meet homosexuals all the time that almost makes me ashamed to be a lesbian. They aren’t imbued with the self respect and sense of responsibility me and my wife have. My family even has to worship the Creator at home because we aren't welcome in churches most churches; at least not the ones in my neighborhood. I know the bible; I behave like a Christian daily. Lots of people call themselves Christians and really don’t understand what it means. To be a Christian, you must be crystallized in the likeness of Christ. That means, cherishing the gift of grace and having faiths while performing “works” in your community, in your extended families, assisting those less fortunate, fighting for peace and justice in this world we all have to live in. My family is judged so harshly, and the people who judge have no idea of what we do in our household. We have family discussions, we participate in fun activities weekly, we read nightly (as a family). We attend all of our children’s social and school activities, we attend therapy so that the children learn to use their voice and feel secure in telling us what’s on their minds. So those of you who just can’t help being judgmental and wishing for the downfall of a same-sex couples union, remember this. I doubt that the Creator would condemn me to an eternity of hellfire and damnation just for unconditionally loving a woman and her children and accepting them as my own. I think that what God wants is for all of us to lead a happy, spiritual and prosperous life. So please, think about that before you throw out words that hurt innocent people and their families tearing down what they know as family. Stop to think before you abandon helping people to realize the truth of God just because they live their life differently than you. We are all God's children and he loves us ALL! Through a Rapist's Eyes.. A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts: 1) The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun, braid or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets. 2) The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who's clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing. 3) They also look for women on their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered. 4) The time of day men are most likely to attack and rape a woman is in the early morning, between 5 and 8:30 a.m. 5) The number one place women are abduct from/attacked at is grocery store parking lots. Number two is office parking lots/garages. Number three is public restrooms. 6) The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they don't have to worry about getting caught. 7) Only 2% said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3-5 year sentence, but rape with a weapon is 15-20 years. 8) If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn't worth it because it will be time-consuming. 9) These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas or other similar objects, in their hands, that can be used from a distance. Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you're not worth it. 10) Several defense mechanisms he taught us are: If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk,..... 'I can't believe it is so cold out here; we're in for a bad winter.' Now you've seen their face and could identify them in a line-up, and you lose appeal as a target. 11) If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they'd leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target. 12) If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes), yell, I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY! Holding it out will be a deterrent. 13) If someone grabs you, you can't beat them with strength but you can by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh -- HARD. (IF you can get a hold of him.) One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her, and she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands so that the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it hurts. 14) After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy's private parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you'll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and he's out of there. 15) When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly. 16) Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don't dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel a little silly at the time, but you'd feel much worse if the guy really was trouble. PLEASE READ THEN FORWARD TO EVERY WOMAN YOU KNOW----FRIENDS, DAUGHTERS, GRANDDAUGHTERS, RELATIVES, CO-WORKERS. IT'S SIMPLE STUFF BUT IT COULD SAVE THEIR LIVES.
